SoftServe designed an Android prototype that participated in the Google Android Developer Challenge and was included into the top 100 after the first-round evaluation.
To heighten interest in Google's Android, the first complete, open, and free mobile platform, the company held a contest for prospective Android developers to submit their ideas for the platform. A total of 1,788 entries were received from 70 countries.
"We believe that the Android platform offers developers a unique opportunity to create truly innovative mobile software," said Andy Rubin, Google's director of mobile platforms. "We're challenging developers to stretch their imaginations and skills to leverage the full capabilities of this new platform and to create something amazing."
Android was announced on November 5, 2007 by the Open Handset Alliance™, a group of more than 30 technology and mobile industry leaders committed to fostering innovation on mobile phones and offering a better consumer experience. A panel of technology and mobile experts selected from the Open Handset Alliance member organizations and the industry in general judged all qualifying entries.

SoftServe team of top-notch engineers designed a prototype called Android Weather Services, an excellent tool to observe weather at any location in USA. It enables to review the current conditions at desired locations, see weather forecast for 10 days, define Favorite location list just to be always informed about their weather, observe available Flights across US using AmericanAirlines®.
In the first round of evaluation, Android Weather Services hit in the top 25% of all submitted applications based on three out of four judgment criteria (Effective Use, Polish and Indispensability). Offering a number of unique advantages, the prototype showed high level of innovation and technology expertise of the SoftServe team and was recognized among the top 100.
