Client background
Our client is one of the world’s largest food retail companies and a recognized leader in protein. Family-led for three generations, it has a broad portfolio of food products and brands. The company keeps innovating to make protein more sustainable, tailor food to every market it serves, and raise expectations for how much good food can do.
Business challenge
The client needed stronger analytics at a lower IT cost. Specific goals included:
- Scale the solution without heavy IT infrastructure investment
- Overcome the limits of existing analytics tools
- Improve overall performance
The existing solution limited managers’ access to high-quality analytics in two ways:
- Native end-user data analysis tools lacked the required functionality
- Capacity planning difficulties slowed new data onboarding and new analytics development

Project description
SoftServe recommended moving from the client’s SAP HANA analytics database, accessed by a number of SQL and MDX clients, to a data warehouse built on Google BigQuery and AtScale.
The client identified the data sets to migrate. SoftServe developed ETL pipelines from SAP HANA to GCP and Google BigQuery in the SnapLogic ETL tool, then added a logical data warehouse structure in AtScale on top of the BigQuery data. Performance tests compared the existing and new solutions.
Value delivered
The PoC would give the client more robust end-user analysis tools and virtually unlimited scalability, without capacity planning overhead.
