AI-powered risk assessment accelerates document review through Central Command
At a glance
Fortified Health Security set out to reduce the manual effort behind its healthcare risk assessments while preparing for continued growth. Working with SoftServe, the company built an AI-powered document analysis engine into its Central Command platform. The result cut initial review time from more than 40 hours to eight and increased Fortified's service delivery capacity fivefold.
Fortified Health Security has built its reputation on managed security and privacy services for hospitals and health systems across the country. The company's risk assessment practice sits at the center of that work, guiding healthcare organizations through detailed reviews of their policies, procedures, and compliance evidence before analysts deliver strategic recommendations.
As client demand grew, Fortified's analysts found themselves spending most of their time on manual document review rather than the advisory work that set the firm apart. Reading and interpreting policies, procedures, and evidence left little room for the strategic conversations clients valued most, and the imbalance slowed feedback loops just as peak-season demand tested the team's capacity. Fortified needed a way to keep pace with growth without simply adding more analysts to the roster.
Manual review slows growth
Fortified's risk assessment services required extensive manual review of client documentation. Analysts spent much of their time reading and interpreting materials, leaving less time for strategic input. This imbalance slowed feedback loops and limited capacity during peak seasons.
The challenge had two parts:
- Operational inefficiency. Continued growth would require Fortified to streamline its workflows.
- Scalability constraints. The manual process could not support growing demand without adding analysts.
Existing processes relied entirely on manual effort, which introduced variability into assessments and delayed client engagement. Fortified wanted a solution that would keep the team current with market trends, sharpen its insights, and increase efficiency without giving up quality.

Building an AI-powered analysis engine
This partnership has evolved continuously, with both organizations committed to advancing cybersecurity in the digital age. A recent joint workshop focused on AI-driven solutions produced several immediate innovations, including a breakthrough in risk assessment efficiency called Automated Policy Review. The new capability let Fortified's experts spend more time on high-impact advisory work while AI took on the initial document analysis.
Fortified and SoftServe co-developed an AI-powered document analysis engine and built it directly into the Central Command platform, applying the same agentic software development principles the two organizations had used to build Central Command itself.
- Domain-specific AI training. Custom instruction sets taught the AI agents about healthcare security frameworks, HIPAA and NIST requirements, and cybersecurity best practices.
- Structured output generation. AI responses follow predefined schemas that keep results consistent and compatible with Central Command workflows.
- Human-in-the-loop design. Analysts review and approve every AI-generated recommendation before it reaches a client, keeping quality control in human hands.
- Continuous learning. Analyst feedback on AI recommendations improves the system's accuracy over time.
- Security and compliance. All document processing meets Fortified's standards for data and access, maintaining full HIPAA and NIST compliance.
What Fortified built
The new document analysis engine includes three core capabilities.
- Document ingestion and processing - Clients upload a wide range of file types into Central Command, including Word documents with embedded images, Excel spreadsheets with complex tables and screenshots, and audio files. Generative AI classifies the documents, extracts key information, and identifies the sections that align with regulatory frameworks such as NIST and HIPAA. The system also pulls structured data on access control, incident response, encryption standards, and other security domains directly from the source material.
- Intelligent gap analysis - The AI engine compares client documentation against industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and Fortified's proprietary assessment criteria. It flags missing or incomplete policies, surfaces contradictions across documents, and produces a prioritized list of deficiencies ranked by risk severity.
- Contextual recommendations - For each deficiency the system identifies, it produces a specific, actionable recommendation tailored to the client's environment, including its size, infrastructure, and compliance obligations. Each recommendation carries a clear rationale and points to the relevant standards, so clients can see why it matters.

Results and recognition
Fortified Health Security has partnered with SoftServe since the earliest days of the Central Command platform, and the relationship has consistently produced results worth recognizing. Central Command established a single system for managed services and helped earn Fortified the "Best in KLAS" award for Security and Privacy Managed Services five years running, from 2022 through 2026. The platform also won the 2024 Cybersecurity Breakthrough Award for "Healthcare Cybersecurity Solution of the Year" and the 2025 award for "Managed Security Innovation of the Year" across all managed security service providers.
The AI-powered review capability delivered results analysts could measure right away. With AI handling document review and the first pass of analysis, Fortified's analysts now spend their time on:

Putting AI to work on policy review inside Central Command cut the time required for initial feedback from more than 40 hours to eight. That efficiency gain drove a fivefold increase in Fortified's service delivery capacity, so the company could handle peak-season demand without adding analysts. The AI system reviews every relevant framework and policy each time, so evaluations stay thorough and consistent.
Clients now get faster turnaround times and deeper analysis, and that has strengthened relationships and lifted satisfaction. Fortified also offers more insightful, cost-effective service than competitors still relying on manual review, reinforcing its position as a leader in healthcare cybersecurity.
Looking ahead
Fortified Health Security turned a growing analyst workload into a competitive advantage by putting agentic AI to work alongside its experts rather than in place of them. The company's risk assessment team now moves faster, serves more clients, and delivers the kind of judgment-driven advice that document review alone could never provide.
