Client background
The client is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) company that builds educational software. Its cloud-based Canvas learning management system (LMS) connects more than 18 million teachers and learners at over 1,200 higher education and K-12 institutions worldwide.
The challenge
Schools keep student records in a student information system (SIS). The client needed Canvas to work with those systems, and the project had three parts:
- Integration with SIS Aeries
- Integration with SIS Aspire, which Nebo School uses
- A Flexible Learning LTI application
Project description
SoftServe and the client built all three integrations together in three months. The SIS integrations use a SIS API and custom integrations provided by the client. They retrieve the SIS data, process it, and format it to meet Canvas requirements.
Value delivered
Canvas now supports integrations with the SIS. Instructors can pass information to Canvas and use it at both the account and sub-account levels. Teachers can transfer data, work with the full set of Canvas features, and rely on current information from the SIS.
The Flexible Learning LTI application gives the client's customers a way to manage the master schedule of a course. It also lets them modify the study plan for an individual student.
