Meet BioLock: Smart Biometrics for Tomorrow

clock-icon-white  3 min read

Introducing BioLock: a smart system by SoftServe designed for continuous authentication and monitoring of human well-being. This solution is based on electrocardiogram (ECG) analysis, utilizing biosensors embedded into a vehicle’s steering wheel and a mobile application that operates in offline mode.

If your company handles highly sensitive information, you may be interested in additional security systems built with continuous biometric authentication using ECG technology. This cutting-edge authentication method can be integrated with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)-powered devices.

Organizations in industries such as healthcare manage vast amounts of sensitive information and often rely on password policies to control access. However, these policies can be time-consuming, inefficient, and prone to issues. Employees are required to regularly update passwords, which may expire or be forgotten, leading to the involvement of additional services to resolve access problems. These challenges result in extra costs and valuable time wasted on device management.

In today’s digital age, password management challenges can be addressed with small, custom devices that operate for extended periods on a single battery charge. These devices collect ECG data and transmit it to a mobile phone via a BLE channel for further processing.

Visibility is key to supply chain security. With BioLock’s technology, we’ll know if the correct driver is manning the truck at all times. Integrating with BioLock will not only provide Overhaul, our drivers and clients with an extra layer of cargo security but it will also prevent cargo theft ensuring successful hauls each time,
says Overhaul CEO Barry Conlon.

Enter SoftServe BioLock: a smart IoT device for biometric authentication. For this innovation, our team developed a custom ECG reader device, integrated it into a printed cover for a mobile device, and embedded it into a steering wheel. The first step in our concept design process involved a literature review, state-of-the-art algorithm research, and dozens of experiments conducted in simulated real-life conditions to collect data for analysis.

As demonstrated, the data quality is significantly improved, and even through visual assessment, it is evident that the ECG patterns from different users are distinct. This data can then be used for proper neural network (NN) training.
