Shell Uncovers Critical Security Vulnerabilities Through A Cyber Attack Simulation

Shell, a global group of energy and petrochemicals companies is helping to meet the world’s growing demand for energy in economically, environmentally and socially responsible ways. It produces more than 3 million barrels of oil equivalent per day and has over 40,000 service stations worldwide.

Business Challenge

After having experienced a security incident, Shell Retail Ukraine initiated a Penetration Testing Audit to evaluate the current level of IT security. They decided to partner with SoftServe due to SoftServe’s security certifications success, and extensive security expertise.

Project Description

Penetration Testing and Social Engineering Attacks were conducted by the SoftServe team of four Certified Ethical Hackers. During this Penetration testing, SoftServe’s security experts used the most advanced OWASP guidelines and standards, such as OWASP Top-10 Web Application Risks, OWASP Risk rating methodology.

Value Delivered

The test uncovered a number of critical vulnerabilities that might have compromised sensitive data. The identified vulnerabilities were easily exploitable and the risk posed by these vulnerabilities was significant. SoftServe’s security assessment helped Shell Retail Ukraine prevent significant financial loss.
